What do Mark Scheel and Rube Goldberg have in common?

December 10, 2007

This is really well done - and funny!

From Mark:

This Earth Day I made a presentation at a technical conference in Austin, TX that combined Programming, Real Estate and a Rube Goldberg device I called Mark’s Portable Pedal Power Generator. The device turned kinetic energy in the form of a spinning bicycle wheel into standard AC electricity. Google and Specialized Bikes announced a video contest for just such a device a few months later. The contest ends this week and is hosted by YouTube. I have created an 84 second Video that shows me lighting a Christmas Tree in the middle of a forest, using the device.

Click here to watch the video. And give Mark some link love when you’re done.

Breaking news: Apple ads are hilarious and clever

November 21, 2007

These guys are on a roll. Look how they didn’t just move the TV ads on-line, but they’re now using ad space on the sites so creatively. I hear the ads are appearing on Engadget, PCMag, and News.com, sometimes appearing with articles about Vista.

Sick of all the Web 2.0 talk?

November 21, 2007

If your sick of hearing about all this crap, check out this satirical video. Funny stuff! I am a fan of the Common Craft videos that this riffs on though.

Android (gPhone API) demo

November 14, 2007

Pretty cool demo. 3G speed, hardware accelerated 2D/3D graphics, touch screen, and open API. They don’t talk about it in this video, but I’ve also read that the GPS functionality is open and accessible from the API, which I believe will be a first for mobile phones.

The GigaOM Show

September 26, 2007

One of the blogs I read daily is GigaOM. He recently started a new on-line “TV” show where he interviews guests once a week about what’s going on in Silicon Valley. Very interesting and worth checking out. Today’s show has the head of Zimbra talking about their sale to Yahoo and Jeff Clavier talking about his new fund and seed staging in general. Om’s co-host is Joyce Kim, a lawyer specializing in venture financing who brings good questions and information to the show.
